Three Months After Launch, Android Marshmallow Adoption Stands At A Mere 0.7%

Google’s latest Marshmallow platform does not seem to be having much luck and adoption rates for the latest Android iteration have again hit an all time low, even three months after launch.

Launched by Google in October last year on its Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P devices, the Marshmallow platform was expected to generate excitement equal to — if not exceeding — its predecessors and the arsenal of new features Google had equipped it with, should have been enough for it to have turned out to be an instant hit.

However, things seldom turn out like we think they will, and the usage of the much vaunted Android M is at a dismal 0.7%. That mustn’t surprise Google though. This has usually been the case with almost all of the Android versions that come out.(Data From Google)

Compare it with the ancient Gingerbread (3.0%) and the relatively unpopular Icecream Sandwich (2.7%) and you are left bemused. Something has to be very wrong here — After all, how in the world did Google’s latest Android platform manage to come up with figures this bad?

Well folks, look no further for the blame lies entirely at Google’s own doorsteps. The company, which was so quick in announcing the launch of Marshmallow is equally slow when it comes to the actual roll out. Three whole months down the road and hardly anyone has received an OTA or even the option for a manual install yet.

So that’s the big secret. Google’s Marshmallow is performing so badly because the company has hardly made it available to manufacturers for incorporation into their devices yet — a trend set by Marshmallow’s predecessors. Just about the only devices rocking it are from Google’s own Nexus lineup and to be fair, you can hardly expect people to make smartphone purchases based entirely on the mobile platform.

As per GSMArena, here is a complete list of the manufacturers that will provide their consumers with the Android 6.0 experience over the coming weeks and months.
