Samsung may be on the verge of a minor coup as it promises to integrate its smart TVs with a brand new universal remote control and an upgraded Smart Hub user interface.
The reasoning behind the decision is quite sound. As the number of devices that can be connected to televisions has expanded to include Blu-ray players, game consoles, video-streaming boxes and more, a universal remote that would free you from keeping track of multiple controllers, packed in with the smart tv certainly makes sense.
The universal controller would thus allow the television to act as a command centre for everything that connects to your Samsung Smart TV. Hold your horses before you get too excited though, as there is no concrete word on wheather the remote ships free, or costs extra bucks.
The move is even more significant considering that Samsung has already made its Smart TVs compatible with the Internet of Things (IoT) via SmartThings — where it can be used to control light bulbs, thermostats and the like around your house. Coupled with todays news, its seems like Samsung’s new remote may just be deploy-able in a whole lot of conditions.
Finally, smart Tv users may also soon see its users able to switch between content services and devices — searching acros various devices from a single place and the sort — without any need to flit around.
The South Korean company is planning to officially unveil its Smart Tv products and services at the CES Las Vegas, that kicks off in a couple of days. Rest assured, we will keep you up to date with all the latest developments. Stay Tuned!
