Hugefly, the Pune-based e-commerce personalization and recommendation platform, has launched a new and intelligent image search feature, pretty much in line with similar features being rolled out by competing startups and bigger e-commerce players.

Hugefly’s image search feature is backed by artificial intelligence and advanced Natural Language Processing wherein the application understands the context of the searched query and gives extremely relevant results.

Interestingly though, Image Search isn’t a completely new feature in the present scheme of things. Both Flipkart and Snapdeal for example — two of India’s biggest e-commerce platforms, already have a similar feature, either fully deployed on their platforms or in works. In the case of Snapdeal, a feature named Snapsearch is already in the works under a new $100 Million Machine Learning lab which the company announced recently.

Prior to these two, several other startups, which have been focussed on developing solutions for e-commerce platforms have rolled out similar image search features. Roposo for example, which is a mobile-only fashion-discovery platform which lets users discover great fashion trends via feeds of other users, also has a similar feature on its app.

Image Search, as the name suggests, enables shoppers to just click the picture of the product they are looking for, be it in a magazine or a newspaper and get the closest and the best suited results for their search, thus saving them the trouble of going through pages after pages online.

Founded in January this year, Hugefly offers a proprietary technology-enabled solution to e-commerce companies to help significantly reduce search time on the platform, offer highly relevant and personalized search results across users and create very targeted and customized recommendations on a real-time basis. The target of the company is to provide a 360 suite to search data in B2B sector.
