Indian-origin CEOs of two of the biggest global tech labyrinths — Google and Microsoft — are scheduled to visit India later this month.
While CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai will be on an official visit, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is on a private visit to his parents in Hyderabad. According to sources, in addition to his family visit, Satya will visit T-hub, the hugely popular start-up incubation centre in Hyderabad to interact with startups.
T-incubator was launched last month and is created by the state government in collaboration with IIIT-Hyderabad, Indian School of Business (ISB) and NALSAR University of Law.
Sundar Pichai is on a completely official visit though. His visit plans include meeting with PM Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherji as well as delivering a keynote at a Google India event on December 16 where he is expected to announce many initiatives related to Digital India campaign.
He is also expected to officially launch Google’s Wi-Fi initiatives for India in partnership with RailTel, a unit of Indian Railways that provides broadband services.
Although Google spokesperson declined to comment on the supposed event, but the company has already sent out an invite for an event on December 16.
At Google, we believe that technology can change people’s lives for the better. Indians are coming online at an astonishing rate with affordable smartphones. These new users have a completely fresh view on what the Internet has to offer. Please block your date for an event with Google as we outline our vision for these users,
the invite said.
During Modi’s visit to Silicon valley this year, Sundar Pichai had met the Prime Minister for discussions on Make In India and Digital India. He had announced free Wi-Fi services in over 400 railway stations in the country using the underlying optic fibre network of RailTel.
In a blog post, Sundar Pichai had written about it as one of the largest public Wi-Fi project in India, and among the largest in the world, by the number of potential users. He had also announced to bring more local language support to Android to cater to people from India.
In addition to the Google India event, Pichai is also said to host an open event with students from across India at the Delhi University. He will also attend a dinner hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan along with business leaders.
