Budget friendly hotel rooms marketplace OYO rooms has launched OYO WE, a new brand to cater to the needs of women travellers in India. OYO justifies the move, by saying that women make up as much as 40% of its customers and the number is expected to further increase in future.
OYO WE rooms would have all-women staff and women friendly facilities such as automated door locks, hair dryer, iron and full length mirror in rooms, library with women magazines, doctor and beauty services on call and cab services.
These new designs and features would be incorporated into 15 new properties which the startup is planning to bring under the brand in 10 cities by the end of this year. The owners of these properties would invest about 1.5-2 lakhs to incorporate these features and give them a OYO WE brand look.
Kavikrut, head of expansions at OYO Rooms also said,
WE are also looking at converting existing properties into OYO WE brand, apart from signing new properties. These properties will undergo transformation in terms of design and features.
Given the unfortunate fact that India is not particularly deemed safe or suitable for women travellers and also the fact that business from women travellers in growing at 50% rate every year, hospitality industry has been making similar efforts since 2005 to offer their services keeping in mind these problems.
OYO had recently hired Deepika Gupta who was a part of leadership team at Amazon responsible for setting up jewellery business. In addition to increasing the growth of its new brand, OYO Rooms is also looking forward to expand to around 5,000 hotels spread across 150 cities with 50,000 rooms by the end of this year.
