In his third such position since he started with his proactive investment schedule in Indian startups, Ratan Tata has now joined IDG Ventures in an advisory role. He had previously joined Jungle Ventures and Kalaari Capital in similar roles.

While his current roles in Kalaari and Jungle Ventures are principally in an advisory form, his role in IDG has much more to than just being an advisor. IDG Ventures said, that Tata would also be present as a “special invitee” in portfolio company board meetings on strategic matters, on a selective basis.

IDG Ventures Founder Chairman Sudhir Sethi said in a prepared statement,

His rich experience in building businesses and expanding globally from India is of immense value to our portfolio companies. We are indeed privileged and honoured today.

Ratan Tata’s role in India’s startup ecosystem isn’t unknown. He has been an extremely proactive investor, backing Indian unicorn startups like Ola and Snapdeal, and other upcoming ones like HolaChef, YourStory etc.

He is also an advisory member in the boards of Singapore-based Jungle Ventures and Kalaari Capital.
