Windows 10 has brought some serious good omens for Microsoft. While MS earlier rolled out stats showing how over 75 Million customers are already using Windows 10, this time, its Steam’s Hardware & Software Survey for August 2015 which has brought good news.

According to Steam’s survey, even though Microsoft’s overall share declined, Windows 10’s adoption rate went straight up into double digits, surpassing virtually every other OS, including its own siblings. Windows 8.1 however, which is one of the most preferred choice for gamers, continues to hold that title, followed closely by Windows 10.

Here is the August 2015 operating system market share list for Steam:

  • Windows 10: 17.02 percent
  • Windows 8.1: 23.90 percent
  • Windows 8: 2.88 percent
  • Windows 7: 48.54 percent
  • Windows Vista: 0.62 percent
  • Windows XP: 2.76 percent
  • Mac OS X: 3.22 percent
  • Linux: 0.92 percent

Here’s a detailed breakdown of OS shares, which Steam provided in its H&S Survey :

Microsoft, if you remember, had laid special focus on gaming while designing Windows 10. In fact, windows 10 has backward compatibility already, which makes you play almost any title, actually built for an older Windows version, on Windows 10. This was a major boost, considering that no titles have been currently developed for Windows 1o, except for a few upgraded Microsoft ones.

Summing up the overall trends, Windows continues to reign steam with over 95% share, and that size won’t see much shrink, considering how well Windows 10 has been received by gamers and usual customers alike.
