Continuing with the series of updates of Windows 10 to home and enterprise users, Microsoft has launched its Desktop Optimization Pack (or MDOP for Microsoft Desktop optimization Pack) which is a tool available for the enterprises and the customers of Software Assurance.

With the help of MDOP tools, organizations can easily manage and monitor enterprise desktops, virtualize applications and user experience and use it for emergency recovery. The pack is made available to MSDN subscribers and volume license customers  and can also be purchased from Microsoft Volume Licensing website. The previous version MDOP 2014 R2 was launched in December last year.

The major components of MDOP are Microsoft App-V, Microsoft UE-V, MED-V (all for virtulaization), Microsoft AGPM, MBAM ( for management) and Microsoft DART (for recovery). Among these, MDOP 2015 contains updates to each of the components except MED-V(Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization).

Microsoft App Virtualization (App-V) allows the apps to run without conflicts and its latest version 5.1 comes with Windows 10 support in addition to few changes in management console.
Microsoft User Experience Virtualziation (UE-V)2.1 which allows the syncing of user settings such as taskbar settings and network printer settings across devices on Azure cloud, now comes with Windows 10 support and also support app and operating system settings to be synchronized with Microsoft Azure. Task bar settings can only be synchronized across Windows 10 devices for now.

Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) 2.1 Service Pack 1 is the security tool to monitor BitLocker encryption on device drives. The latest version along with support for Windows 10 allows encryption of only used disk space and works now without having to “own” the Trusted Platform Module on the device.

Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) helps multiple administrators of system to edit group policy and the new version AGPM 4.0 Service Pack 3 comes with new PowerShell cmdlets to help automate these administrative tasks. DART (Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset) allows the system to boot from custom boot images during recovery. The new version DART 10 has support for Windows 10, including Windows 10 Preinstallation Environment images, plus the Windows Assessment and Development Kit 10.0.

More details about the MDOP 2015 can be found on the announcement page of Microsoft.  Apart from MDOP 2015, one major feature which business organizations have been eagerly waiting to get Windows 10 support is the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) which help in connecting and managing Windows servers. As per the announcement by Microsoft, RSAT will be “available soon” and it is rumored that it will be released along with the Preview 3 of Windows Server 2016.
