Amazon’s Indian wing, Amazon.in will soon offer branded, refurbished phones from top manufacturers. While certain to pull the price conscious Indian market, what makes it even more appealing is the fact that the devices have been refurbished by their original manufacturers themselves.
The move comes as part of Amazon’s drive to expand its Consumer Electronics (CE) division, that has seen both demand and supply increase by massive numbers. In only the last one year, the selection of articles available on the platform has grown by almost 150%.
Speaking on the move to include refurbished devices, Noor Patel, Director Category Management – Media, Amazon India said,
Our consumer insights give us enough reason to believe that there is a market in India for quality-assured, brand-refurbished smartphones at value prices. We are starting the refurbished category as a pilot and will scale as we see more feedback from customers. We are confident that the smartphone ecosystem will gear up for more brand-refurbished products in the coming months.
The devices are clearly marked as refurbished to avoid confusion and come with 6 months or higher warranty from the brands themselves.
While limited to only a few brands as compared to the over 82 smartphone brands available for sale, Amazon has plans in store to expand the section soon, to bring more brands and manufacturers into the fold soon. For now though, Samsung and Xiaomi will be among the first to offer company refurbished devices to consumers via Amazon.in.
The devices will not only feature a 6 months or higher warranty from the brands themselves, but will also have added Amazon perks, such as easy returns, an A-to-Z guarantee and premium guaranteed deliveries. What’s more, the category comes under Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), meaning that you buy the cool, refurbished piece of technology at never before prices without sacrificing your peace of mind.
