Samsung may not be holding those glitzy launch events, but it has been quietly unveiling devices, which are robust on both design as well as hardware. The latest addition to these devices, are the just announced S2 tablets, packing up decent hardware, but more importantly are sleeker than Apple’s thinnest iPad on offer.

The two new tablets, largely differentiable only via screen sizes, are just 5.6mm thick, making them even sleeker than Apple’s thinnest — iPad Air (6.1 mm). They are available in two new sizes — 8 inch and 9.7 inch — which weight in at just 265g and 389g respectively, and since portability is what we look for in a tablet, these devices could become hugely popular, largely due to their thinness and weight factor.

Both new tablets ride on their predecessor’s hugely impressive AMOLED display, something which made the Tab S easily stand out, even in front of the mightiest of tablets in competition. These two new tabs (9.7 inch and 8.0 inch) pack that same AMOLED display, delivering 94% of natural tones to show true-to-life colors (Adobe RGB color standard).

Coming to the spec sheet, both the devices have a QXGA AMOLED display, with the 9.7 inch variant sporting a 2048×1536 resolution, while the 8.0 inch variant supporting a 2048×1536 resolution.

The tabs run on an octa-core application processor which pairs four 1.9GHz cores with four 1.3GHz cores — with 3GB RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal memory. Memory is expandable upto 128 GB via external memory cards slots.

Both run on Android lollipop 5.0, wrapped up in Samsung’s Touch Wiz UI — probably the only downside to Samsung’s devices.

As for camera, both these tabs feature an 8MP rear snapper, with support for QHD (2560×1440) video recording at30 fps, and playback support for Ultra-HD (3840×2160) videos at 30fps.

Samsung said the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will go on sale across the world in August. Colour options, by the looks of these official photos, seem to be Black and White. However, there is no word on pricing yet.
