Mobile messenger service, Whatsapp has crossed the milestone of 70 million active users in India which is over a 10th of its global users. Neeraj Arora, Whatsapp’s vice-president, said at the fifth annual INK Conference in Mumbai,
We have 70 million active users here who use the application at least once a month, India is one of the biggest markets for WhatsApp
With Indians drifting more and more to social networking and communications, there is no incredulity to see Whatsapp growing to such an enormous user base. Every person with a little knowledge and a smartphone welcomes himself to use Whatsapp and stay in touch with other people around.
Facebook acquired Whatsapp for $19 Billion earlier this year as a result of Zuckerberg’s anticipation for Whatsapp’s giant user-base. Neeraj Arora stating about Facebook’s acquisition said-
WhatsApp will continue to hold a distinct identity even after the takeover by Facebook and will not get merged with the social networking giant. The 80 Whatsapp’s employees, will benefit through learnings from the social networking giant.
