According to numbers from analyst firm IDC, Apple Inc. now holds the position of the fifth largest largest computer maker in the world with its market-share rising to 6.3 percent in the third quarter of 2014.
With nearly 5 million shipments during the quarter compared to 4.5 million shipments during the same time span last year, Apple saw overall growth of 8.9 percent, allowing it to displace ASUS as the number five vendor.
Overall, the report found that the PC business had shrunk in the second half of 2014 so far by 1.7 percent which is far less than IDC’s estimated 4.1 percent.
Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Acer still hold their top four positions with their shipments rising between 5 and 12 percent. Lenovo is the top worldwide PC vendor, with more than 15 million shipments and 20 percent marketshare.
