Apple has begun its battery replacement program, for the faulty battery units, which some iPhone 5 units might have received. In its official statement, Apple has said that a “very small percentage” of units “may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.”
This is the second time that Apple has started a replacement program for an iPhone 5 part. About three and a half months back, Apple had started a similar replacement program for a faulty power button in certain iPhone 5 units.
In the current replacement program, Apple has said that the affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.
As for the availability of this program, by August 22, 2014, the replacement process will be available in the U.S. and China. In other countries, it will be available as of August 29, 2014. Check if your iPhone qualifies for free replacement here.
In India, you can expect the program to kick off by August 29th ( or August 30th, if adjusted to Indian Standard Time ).
